Glastonbury

Link to map.

Glastonbury is an iconic town that stands out from the flat levels from having the prominent hill and Tor. As an early religous center it has the ruined abbey and several large churches in close proximity to it. Whilst Christianity is still widespread, more recently, it has also become a center for new-age beliefs and philosophies.

The moderate sized town is unusual and has a larger influence on the arts. It was the place chosen to represent the "green and pleasant land" in the opening ceremony of London 2012 Olympics.

The name of Glastonbury has become synonymous with the long running music festival which is held in nearby village of Pilton.
