Swell Wood is a small woodland reserve managed by the RSPB. Within this wood there is a heronry. The heronry is used all year around but during nesting season it is a hive of activity.
The RSPB have set up a stylish hide under the canopy where the herons perch and its a great place to watch them.
Aside from Herons there are some tranquil walks along the Scarp Trail through the woods which are especially good in spring when the Bluebells show. The car park itself has a lot of small birds and grey squirel which use the feeders.
